Time to get crafty! Want to learn to knit or crochet? Need to sew a costume for a school play or Halloween? The Library is now offering crochet and knitting kits, as well as sewing machines. These kits will provide you with basic materials to learn the art of knitting, crocheting, and sewing.

Did you know that crafting is good for your health? Not only does learning how to sew, crochet, or knit leave you with a useful life-long skill, it can also relieve stress, improve memory function, protect the brain from aging, and increase your overall happiness!

Sewing Machine

About the Sewing Machines

The Library has three Brother XM2701 sewing machines available to borrow. The Brother XM2701 is an easy-to-use, value-packed and versatile, sewing machine perfect for a wide range of everyday sewing projects. There are 27 unique built-in stitches, including decorative, blind hem, zigzag and stretch stitches and one-step auto size buttonholer for virtually perfect buttonholes.

  • Idiot’s Guide to Sewing book
  • Sewing kit (thimble, tape measure, scissors)
  • Rolling tote
  • Brother Instructional DVD

  • Zigzag foot, buttonhole foot “A”, zipper foot, daring plate, buttonhole foot “m”, 4 bobbins, 2 needles, oval screwdriver, foot controller, spool pin, blind stitch foot, narrow hemmer foot

Borrowing a Sewing Machine

    • Patrons 14 and older with a Yorba Linda Public Library card in good standing can check out a sewing machine.
    • Sewing machines check out for six (6) weeks and are non-renewable.
    • Only one sewing machine can be checked out at a time per card.
    • Fines and Fees: A fee of $2 per day will be charged if a sewing machine is overdue.
  • A replacement fee of up to $230 for sewing machine will be charged of the instrument or any of the items included in the kit are damaged or lost.

About the Knitting Kit

Want to try out knitting but not sure if it is a good fit? Before you head to the nearest craft store, borrow one of our knitting kits and try it out first.  Our kits include all the materials you need to knit a basic scarf, plus you get to keep the yarn when you return the kit.

Included with the Knitting Kit

  • 1 Yorba Linda Public Library bag
  • 1 set of knitting needles US size 9 (5.5 mm)
  • 1 tape measure
  • Large-eye blunt needle
  • Knit gauge
  • Knit count
  • Zipper case organizer
  • Scissors
  • 20 stitching markers
  • Yarn
  • The Complete Beginner’s Guide To Knitting DVD
  • Learn To Knit book
  • Teach Yourself Visually Knitting book

DIY: Gift It! Night

Wednesday, December 12 at 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
This year your gifts won’t be re-gifted! Get into the holiday gift giving spirit by creating an edible gift, ornament, and more to give to friends and family. Free supplies and written instructions will be provided. Enjoy festive refreshments and spread some holiday cheer.  Please contact the Adult Information Desk at 714-777-2873, ext. 6 to be placed on the registration list. Adults 18+.
