Children’s Services 2024 Summer Volunteer Opportunities


Volunteer Intern Program (VIP)

Apply to be a Children’s Services VIP! VIPs are lead volunteers who assist staff with various activities including training and scheduling of summer volunteers, overseeing the summer reading prize booth, checking-in families at programs, and more increasingly challenging opportunities. VIPs may be given the opportunity to shadow and assist staff with librarian related duties including running reports, checking condition of materials, inventory of storytelling supplies, etc. 

VIP volunteers are chosen based on their application, personal statement, and in-person interview. A limited number of VIP volunteers will be chosen. 

A minimum of 65 hours of service between May and August is required.  

Who Can Apply:
9th – 11th grade students with previous Yorba Linda Public Library volunteer experience who demonstrate leadership and responsibility. 

When to Apply:
April 20 – May 4

How to Apply:
VIP applications will be online via this page. Application link will be live April 20.

What’s Needed:
VIP applicants will need a valid library card in their name as part of the VIP volunteer application. The application will also need to be electronically signed by a parent or legal guardian.

How to Get a Library Card:
Click here for a library card application prior to applying for the volunteer program. Once a library card application is submitted, please bring a parent/legal guardian, picture ID, and proof of current address to the Accounts Desk to pick up your library card.

What Happens After Submitting an Application: 
You will be contacted to schedule an in-person interview that will take place during the week of May 6.



Volunteer Program

The Children’s Services Summer Volunteer Program provides positive and fun community service opportunities.

Who Can Apply:
Students currently in 8th – 11th grade.

When to Apply:
Yorba Linda residents may apply beginning Saturday, May 11. 
Non-Yorba Linda residents may apply beginning Monday, May 18.

Online applications will be accepted until positions are filled or through May 31 at 4 p.m. (whichever comes first); therefore, we encourage those interested to apply early.

Apply online via this page. Application link will be live starting May 11 for Yorba Linda residents and May 18 for non-Yorba Linda residents.

What Happens After Submitting an Application: 
Students who submit a Summer Volunteer Application will receive an appointment time via email for an IN-PERSON INTERVIEW/AUDITION/PLACEMENT for Saturday, June 1 to get their summer assignment. Priority for placement will be given to those who report in-person at their scheduled time on Saturday, June 1. Volunteers who cannot make the in-person placement time on June 1, will be called during the week of June 3, but volunteer positions will be very limited by this time. Requests for specific volunteer positions and/or to work with friends cannot always be accommodated.
