Opera Talk: Dracula

Join us for an interactive presentation given by one of LA Opera’s Community Educators! There have been many screen versions of Bram Stoker’s classic tale of Dracula, but none more famous or enduring than Universal Studios’ 1931 original. Because its initial release coincided with the transition from silent pictures to “talkies,” when limited sound technology existed, no musical score was ever composed and there were few sound effects. For its 1998 restoration of the film, Universal commissioned legendary composer Philip Glass to write a hypnotic new instrumental score, blowing the cobwebs off the horror classic and adding depth to the emotional layers of the drama.

This event is sponsored by The Friends of the Yorba Linda Public Library and provided in partnership with the LA Opera.
