Community Room

Exciting Library programs such as Star Wars Day, Family Funtime, and our annual Summer Reading Kick Off event fill the Community Room with cheer, creativity, and connection. E Divisible into two rooms, it includes features such as a F raised platform and a G prep kitchen. The Community Room’s flexible design and large space boasts a wide range of opportunities for community use. The H wood grille ceiling in this space provides an inviting warmth which wraps down to form an accent wall at the head of the room while reinforcing the influences from nature found throughout the building.

Tidbit: The Library is equipped with strategically placed security grilles to separate the Community Room and restrooms from the rest of the areas of the Library. This will allow events to occur in the Library Community Room after regular Library operating hours.

Children’s and 6-7-8 Lounge

Walking past the floating staircase, visitors descend via a sloping walkway into the Children’s area. Here, playful I light features provide visual transitions between children’s and tween spaces. Cloudlike lights bring outdoor whimsy indoors, while dotted line lighting provides delineation of each space within the area. A brand new J 6-7-8 Lounge provides middle school students the opportunity to explore the unknown and satisfy their curiosity. A family K reading nook, technology hub, and a small outdoor L children’s play area augments the ample seating, technology, and collections in the area. This lively and interactive area of the Library provides children and tweens with the chance to learn new things and spark their imaginations.

Tidbit: The shelving in the Children’s area is intentionally spaced further apart so kids can comfortably sit and explore the book collections without blocking others from passing.

Storytime Theater

Along the southwest corner of the Children’s area, the magical Storytime Theater utilizes glass sliding doors to seamlessly flow into the Library. Playful M ceiling tiles within the theater mirror the colors of the sky and wrap around the space, mimicking the curves of N built-in benches, the focal point of the room. A dedicated puppet theater featuring integrated lighting and storage allows Yorba Linda Public Library’s award-winning Children’s Librarians to engage, entertain, and inspire a lifelong love of reading in our youth.

Adult Services

Upon ascending the staircase, visitors are greeted to an array of O group study and P meeting spaces which draw them west towards the great reading room and numerous collections. These distinct rooms share a gracious and subtle wood grille ceiling that gently rises to the west to provide dramatic views of both Yorba Linda and Mount Baldy to the north. Visitors can relax and relish the wide-open spaces, copious natural light, and Q fireplace as they browse collections, continue their life-long learning, or simply enjoy the area.

Tidbit: The skylights along the south side of the grand space are essential for balancing the abundant indirect light coming through the large windows along the paseo. They not only provide more illumination but also decrease negative contrast inside the space

DIY Studio

Overlooking the double-height atrium, a versatile DIY Studio provides a wide range of opportunities for discovery or to create the unexpected. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math) activities, book clubs, DIY nights, and classes which highlight the Library of Things collection such as ukulele classes or Stitchin’ In the Stacks are only some of the programs that can spark creativity in this space. Additionally, this room bridges the space between the adult services area of the second floor and the unique Teen Loft.

Teen Loft

The Teen Loft pops up above the roofline to the east, providing a counterpoint to the overall Library. A distinctive clubhouse feel provides teens a space to call their own while meeting their educational and recreational needs. Within the Loft, built-in Rbanquettes and S window seats provide a range of spaces for gaming, study, socialization, and collaboration. Teens will be able to discover their next adventure in this modern space.

Tidbit: The Teen Loft has no fixed furniture between the booths and the wall shelving. This provides complete flexibility and the ability to move the furniture for special events and programs for teens.
